Trim Celtic Premier Division Champions Season Review

The Premier division title was on the move again this season, finding its way to Trim Celtic who went through the season, including cup matches, only losing 1 game, Alan Murphys side were the most consistent side in the whole of the N.E.F.L racking up some big scorelines on the way too against some of the big sides in the premier division. To anyone keeping a check on the premier division title race it was clear after 5-6 games that it was a 2 horse race with last seasons champions Boyne Harps and Trim Celtic matching win for win, it looked all the way as if it would go down to the head 2 head between the 2 sides as they both had 12 wins in the league on the trot before Harps had a blip in their season, drawing at home to a resurgent Bellurgan Utd before losing at home to Parkvilla, this led to Trim having a clear advantage in the title race but had to win their games in hand to gain control of the division. This would prove to be no problem for the Trim side as they continued to rack up the victories and by the time the 2 top sides met Trim had a 5 point advantage in the race.

The greatly anticipated game between the top 2 of Harps and Trim would not disappoint as a large crown flocked to Tully park and were treated to a great game in which Harps, needing the win to get themselves back in the title race, took the lead but Trim equalized soon after and began to control the game. It stayed 1-1 till the 2nd half and Trim began to create more chances, the pressure soon payed off as they took the lead before scoring a late peno to make sure of the 3 points and putting 1 hand on the trophy, they knew a win against Parkvilla would see them crowned champions in their next home match, again a huge crowd turned out for the match and just like the Harps game were treated to a fantastic game of ball in which Parkvilla took an early lead and held that lead until the last 20 mins of the game when Trim grabbed their equalizer before Jack O Keeffe put the icing on the cake with 2 world class strikes to send the crowd and players wild.

The final whistle brought scenes of jubilation as Trim had won the title winning 14 games out of 14 notching up 60 goals on the way and proving that the level needed to win the top prize in the N.E.F.L has never been higher as the 2 previous winners Newfoundwell went unbeaten and last season champions Boyne Harps only dropping 3 points. The only loss Trim suffered all season was the away game to Boyne Harps but the title was already in the bag and they had big cup games to come. Trim would go on to win the Challenge cup, are still currently in the Fai Junior cup and you would not rule them out of going the distance in that competition either.

Congratulations Trim Celtic
