Hazel Lane and Virginia were involved in one of the most entertaining games of football of the season. The game started at frantic pace with both sides going all out attack and could have finished 5-5 in the first half alone with all the chances created, either side could break the deadlock though with the Lane going closest and hitting the post after some good play down the left, both goalkeepers were also thrown into action on more than occasion making some top drawer saves to keep it scoreless at half time.
Hazel Lane started the brightest in the second half and their pressure paid off when midfielder Eoghan Mulroy was taking down in the box after beating a couple of defenders. Up stepped Hazel Lane forward Luca who made no mistake from the spot and sent the keeper the wrong way to put the Lane ahead, Luka could have got his second a couple of minutes later when he was sent through one on one with the keeper only to see his shot brilliantly saved by the Virginia netminder to keep his side in the game, the retrieve was only to be temporary though when a few minutes later sub Lee Kavanagh, on for the injured Brian O Connor swung in a great cross which was met on the volley by Jason Reynolds to make it 2-0 to the home team, the goals didnt stop there either as a half cleared corner was met by Mulroy who struck his shot from outside the box to end up in the bottom corner of Virginias goal, it might of took a bit of a deflection on the way in but that didnt matter to Mulroy who will be claiming it.
Hazel Lane were well on top at this stage and could have added to their scoreline but for some great goalkeeping and some poor finishing and the game would finish 3-0 to Hazel Lane who were glad of the 3 points after their narrow 1-0 loss last week.
A great game of attacking football as you can see from the match highlights available.
