Omp Utd claimed the Fitzsimons cup last night in a highly enteraining game against division 2 champions Chord Celtic. The Navan side took an early lead in the first half and both sides were playing some great ball, the only thing lacking was the final ball. Chord had the majority of the possession they failed to trouble the Omp keeper Both sides also had peno shouts in the first half which were waved away by the ref, so the half finished 1-0 Omp.
The second half continued were the 1st finished, with both sides having good spells in possession but not testing either keeper, Chord needing a goal began to look for killer ball but the back 4 of Omp were well orginised and dealt with every ball played through. With Chord pushing for the equalizer they were leaving space behind and Omp looking dangerous on the break and you could sence a second goal coming and sure enough Omp were the team to claim it, a long ball up the pitch by the keeper wasnt dealt with by the Chord defence and the omp forward pounced on it and blasted the ball by the Chord keeper to make it 2-0. Chord didnt lay down and continued to look for a way back into the game but when they did find a way past the back 4 of Omp they found an in form keeper who made 2 great saves, (one from a free kick that looked to be heading into the top bin) to keep their clean sheet intact and ensure the win that puts the cherry on top of a great season that already consists a return to the premier division next season.
