Today The Board of the Football Association of Ireland has ratified the appointment of Rea Walshe, Mark Russell, Mark Scanlon and Ger McDermott to four key roles within the FAI’s new Senior Leadership team after an internal recruitment process.
All of us in Meath remember fondly marks time with us in Meath as our Regional development officer and his passion for both the game and county. Speaking this evening, Gerry had this to say.
It was with great joy I learned Mark Scanlon is set to become the new League of Ireland Director. This is one of the most challenging administrative positions not only within our game, but for sport in general, and the appointment shows the great confidence the FAI have in Mark. All in the NEFL should be proud of this prestigious appointment which is due reward for a lifetime of commitment to the development of the game, right back to a then fifteen year old in Trim Celtic taking on responsibility to look after the coaching requirements of various groups not much younger than he was at the time. The positive impression he left at that stage was carried right throughout his career, as he progressed to various roles not least as Meath Football development officer for a number of years, right up to the present position. I wish Mark the very best of luck, and although his direct dealings will no longer be with our level of the game. He can always count on support when required.
